Welcome to the home of Tea Cake - British artist, illustrator and tattoo artist with a penchant for burning things.
Tea has a rich and varied background spanning fields throughout science and the arts. With a BSc (Hons) in animal biology and ecology from the University of Worcester, England, she worked with exotic animals for many years and later made the transition into fashion with her own jewellery and accessories label. She freelanced for other fashion houses in London and eventually made another transition into full time illustration. Drawing and painting has been the one constant throughout her life, so to turn her hand to it full time felt like home. Thus she embarked on her first few years as a freelance illustrator, specialising in traditional media such as pen and ink, watercolour and pyrography. Her scientific background shows through in her work in the form of botanical and animal illustrations and geometry. A marriage of her interests in these fields as well as the occult is extremely visible throughout her portfolio.
After a succession of exhibitions, events, commissions for clothing companies, magazines and various other clients both corporate and private, an opportunity to take on a tattoo apprenticeship presented itself. Since September 2016, upon graduating her apprenticeship, Tea has been tattooing out of shops in LA and London. Travel plans can be found on the tattoo page.
Having spent the years between 2012 and 2017 traveling to and eventually living in LA, she has now returned to her native London & has settled back in to making jewellery & illustrating full time, as well as tattooing out of Gilt Moth tattoo in Greenwich.
